The Los Angeles Rams started training camp on Wednesday and will have practice until Saturday and have Sunday off. They will resume practice next Monday and continue until Thursday, with Friday off. They will practice at Loyola Marymount University, located in Los Angeles, California.
Unfortunately, their defensive back, who was competing for a starting spot, got bit by the injury bug on the first day of training camp.
The Los Angeles Rams cornerback suffered a season-ending knee injury
Derion Kendrick exited on the first day of training camp with an apparent knee injury. He underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, which confirmed that he had torn his ACL. The Rams placed him on injured reserve, and he will be out for the 2024 season.
Kendrick, a former 6th-rounder, was competing for the starting outside cornerback job alongside Darious Williams as Tre’Davious White is recovering from his Achilles injury.
The Rams, with limited cap space, had to settle for a player on a team-friendly deal.
The Los Angeles Rams plan signed a cornerback from the NFC North
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Rams signed Jerry Jacobs to a contract. Jacobs spent the first three seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions, playing 40 games with 29 starts. He saw significant playing time in 2023.

Jerry Jacobs started 12 games in 2023
Jacobs won the starting outside cornerback job in 2023. He played 15 games with 12 starts, recording 55 tackles, three interceptions, and eight pass deflections, and allowed 52 receptions on 82 targets for 638 yards, six touchdowns, and a 96.5 passer rating. He suffered a lower-body injury in Week 18 and missed their three playoff games.
Unfortunately, the Lions declined to tender the “right of first refusal,” tender, making him an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Will Jerry Jacobs start in 2024?
As mentioned, Tre’Davious White is recovering from his injury, and the Rams are limiting his workload so he doesn’t get injured. Once he’s more comfortable, his reps will increase, and he will likely win the starting job. Signing Jacobs provides stability to their secondary in case of an emergency.
If White isn’t quite ready, there will be an open competition between Jacobs, Tre Tomlinson, Decobie Durant (if he loses the starting slot cornerback job), and Josh Wallace. Who wins the starting job?
