The Buffalo Bills are coming off a devastating playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. One notable moment in the game was when Bills kicker Tyler Bass missed a field goal late in the fourth quarter. This could have tied the game but instead, it sealed a Bills loss.
Bass received a lot of negative attention immediately after the game. It resulted in the ugly side of humanity coming out. However, some notable Bills fans have fought back against this and showed they are with Bass.
Buffalo Bills Fans Donate to Tyler Bass’ Charity
Days after Bass missed the field goal that lost the divisional round game for the Bills, a group of fans from Buffalo showed their support. They decided to donate about $25,000 to Tyler Bass’ cat adoption charity. For those of you who do not know, the charity works to find cats homes in the Erie County area.
Negative Attention
Unfortunately, not all Bills fans have been this kind to Bass. With the good comes the bad, as several fans showed an ugly side of themselves on social media. Reportedly, Bass received death threats due to his missed field goal. These death threats forced Bass to delete his social media accounts. As a result, some Bills fans responded with the above action of supporting Bass’ charity to try to cancel out those fans.
Wide Right
Unfortunately, Bass is forever going to be connected to an infamous moment in Bills history. Back in Super Bowl XXV, the Bills did have a chance to win their first Super Bowl title in franchise history. However, Scott Norwood kicked a 47-yard field goal attempt wide right that would have won the Bills that Super Bowl title.
Now, that moment is forever known as “wide right.” Bass’ missed field goal “wide right” will likely be connected to this until the Bills get over the hump.
Buffalo Bills Moving Forward
The Bills will now have to attempt to run it back in the 2024 NFL season. Unfortunately, for the Bills, this is going to be a very difficult task. Part of the reason for this is how much salary QB Josh Allen is going to take up next season.
As for Tyler Bass, he is about to be 27 years old. He is owed $2.8 million next season then about $3.5 million each of the next three years after that. However, the Bills can potentially get out of this contract after the 2024 NFL season. We will have to see how Bass feels about this fanbase as well moving forward.
