Author’s Note: These are not the official Big Ten Players of the Week, but my Big Ten Players of the Week as a writer for Gridiron Heroics.
Offensive Player of the Week:
C.J. Stroud, Ohio State, Quarterback, Junior.
Stroud was 17 of 28 for 297 yards and five touchdowns in the win over Indiana. Stroud needed this kind of game to get back on track after the windstorm against Northwestern slowed him and the Buckeyes down. This time they proved why he’s the Big Ten’s best quarterback.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Cooper DeJean, Iowa, Defensive Back, Sophomore.
DeJean had 10 tackles, including one tackle for a loss, an interception returned 32 yards for a touchdown, and fielded four punts and got 82 return yards. DeJean has 60 tackles, four interceptions, two of which he returned for a touchdown this year.
Special Teams Player of the Week:
Ben Patton, Michigan State, Spartans’Senior.
Patton had three extra points and two big field goals that proved to be the decisive scores in the Spartans victory over the Scarlet Knights. It was an old school Big Ten game that Michigan State won 27-21 on the leg of their kicker.
Big Ten Player of the Year Watch:
-
C.J. Stroud, Ohio State, Quarterback, Junior.
-
Blake Corum, Michigan, Running Back, Junior.
Corum had 28 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown. For the year he has 227 carries for 1,349 yards and 18 total touchdowns. For my money, he’s the best running back in the nation. First, he’ll match stats with Chase Brown and Illinois before the collision with Stroud and Ohio State to close the season.
-
Chase Brown, Illinois, Running Back, Junior.
In the loss to Purdue, Brown still had over 100 total yards and two touchdowns. This was the first game all year that he didn’t have 100 yards rushing and he had 98. On the year he still leads the nation with 1,442 yards. He’s got 10 touchdowns to go with the yards and is the biggest reason Illinois is going bowling this year, let alone still being in contention for the Big Ten Championship Game.
-
Mohammed Ibrahim, Minnesota, Running Back, Senior.
Ibrahim scored his 18th ing touchdown of the season to tie a school record and now has 50 career touchdowns now at Minnesota. He has 1,261 yards on 238 carries, and remember he missed a game. Like Brown, he has his team still in contention in the Wild Big Ten West.
-
Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State, Wide Receiver, Sophomore.
Harrison is playing the way everyone expected Jaxon Smith-Njigba would. He had 8 touches for 153 yards and a touchdown, and through a key block way downfield on Xavier Johnson’s 71-yard touchdown run. Harrison has 60 catches for 969 yards and 11 touchdowns for the year. If he matches his usual production in the Buckeyes remaining two games they have great chances at victory in both of them.
