After the Baltimore Ravens’ 2023 season ended in the conference championship, there were plenty of questions about Odell Beckham Jr.’s future with the team. Now, we might finally have an answer to it.
By the looks of it, Beckham won’t be returning to Baltimore after his one-year stint.
Odell Beckham Jr.’s Baltimore Ravens Run
Beckham signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Ravens in the past offseason following Lamar Jackson’s recruitment of him.
OBJ, who won the Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams but missed the whole 2022 season due to a torn ACL, had a solid campaign with the Ravens. He tallied 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns, establishing himself as a key weapon for Jackson.
Baltimore went on to top the whole AFC and the league with a 13-4 record. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to make it past the eventual back-to-back Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship.
After their campaign ended, Beckham was asked about his future in the NFL and with Baltimore. However, OBJ didn’t sound like someone thinking about retirement, emphasizing that he still feels he has a lot left in the tank.
But whether he stays with the Ravens or move on from another team is a big question for him as well, only saying that he doesn’t know the “politically correct” answer to that.
“To me, if there is anything I felt about myself — regardless of anybody’s opinion or anything like that — is that I know that I can still play football, and I know that I still have [stuff] in the tank,” Beckham said.
“It’s just unfortunate — the way that it went today — because, to me, it’s so much bigger than one person in this room; it was [about] just being able to have that moment with these guys you’ve worked so hard with. So, for me, as far as my future, [I’ll] just take a step back, breathe for a second, pick [my] chin up, just know that life goes on, and we’ll figure out what’s next after that.”
Baltimore Ravens Moving on From Odell Beckham Jr.
According to the latest reports, however, the Baltimore Ravens won’t be bringing back Odell Bekcham Jr. for another year despite the success they had together.
When discussing the latest NFL intel, Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN mentioned that OBJ is unlikely to return, all while linking the Ravens to New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas.
Here’s what Graziano and Fowler wrote:
Michael Thomas’ contract with the Saints is set to void, making him a free agent. A few scouts pointed out Baltimore as a good fit. The Ravens likely won’t re-sign Odell Beckham Jr., and they value established veterans at the receiver position. But a reunion with former New Orleans coach Sean Payton in Denver also makes sense. “When he’s out there and healthy, he affects the game,” an NFC scout said.
Considering that Beckham isn’t thinking about retiring yet, it will definitely be intriguing to see which team he ends up with. Prior to signing with the Ravens in the offseason, he generated a number of interests from a few teams back in 2022, although he was unable to return to action at the time.
After a year of play under his belt and proving that he can still produce at the highest level, there should be a number of teams who will inquire about his services.
