Xavier Worthy was the fifth wide receiver selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. The Kansas City Chiefs traded up to select Worthy with the 28th overall pick. Here is what Worthy’s rookie season could look like and how it will impact fantasy football.
Xaiver Worthy Fantasy Football Outlook for 2024
Xavier Worthy at Texas
Xavier Worthy played three seasons of college football, all with the University of Texas. Worthy started hot in his freshman year when he had almost 1,000 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. With high expectations in his second season, he took a step back and only had 760 yards and nine touchdowns. Fortunately, Xavier Worthy came back for his third year and finally hit the 1,000-yard mark while also having five touchdowns.
After his final year with the Longhorns, Worthy was considered to be a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Even though Worthy had a great college career, he is most known for what he did at the 2024 NFL Combine. At the combine, Xavier Worthy broke the record for the fastest 40-yard dash. Worthy ran a 4.21 which surpassed the previous record of 4.22 held by John Ross. Once Worthy broke the record it seemed like there was a very good chance, he was selected in the first round.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs held the 32nd overall pick in the draft and used it to trade up to number 28 to draft Xavier Worthy. After winning back-to-back Super Bowls, the Chiefs add one of the fastest players in the league to try and replace Tyreek Hill. The Chiefs wide receiver core is in a very interesting spot right now.
The Chiefs signed Marquise Brown to a one-year deal to go along with second-year receiver Rashee Rice. Unfortunately, Rice has been involved in some off-the-field issues and will most likely face some suspension time. With Rice’s future uncertain, it leaves Brown and Worthy to fight for the wide receiver one spot in the Chiefs offense.
Fantasy Impact
With Xavier Worthy fighting for the wide receiver one spot, he should be primed for a massive rookie season. There are some concerns about Worthy’s durability in the NFL due to his slender build, but either way, I think there is a very good chance that Worthy will have a 1,000-yard season in 2024.
If Rice is suspended, Worthy will be a huge fantasy football pickup. FantasyPros currently has Worthy listed as the 124th player on their big board, making him the number 48 wide receiver. This means Worthy is a projected 11th-round player which seems very low to me. I would imagine if Rice is suspended, Worthy will skyrocket and make it into the top 100 of their rankings. Right now, the earliest I would take Worthy would be the eighth round in hopes of him becoming the Chiefs WR1.
