After his draft experience and now a fairly sudden rise to fame, Will Levis has certainly had a full circus circling him every step of his young NFL career. With all of the drama that has surrounded him, he has still managed to win the starting job for the Tennessee Titans over established NFL quarterback Ryan Tannehill and managed to lead to Titans to a 3-4 record since he stepped in. While he clearly has the talent to make it in the NFL, the drama is something that no coach is going to be happy with.
Legendary NFL Receiver gives Will Levis Odd Advice
As a summary of Levis’ initial drama, the top class prospect from the University of Kentucky was projected to be a top five pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. As is common with quarterbacks, after the top few quarterbacks were taken early in the first round, Levis fell all the way to the second. His girlfriend at the time (a young woman by the name of Gia Duddy) apparently leveraged her way into an endorsement deal with Burger King and then dumped the young quarterback. It was also rumored that she had an affair with the musician Drake which added fuel to the fire on this dramatic duo.
While all of this is clearly tabloid gossip and would be difficult to prove, the drama and gossip is enough to distract both a team and a budding quarterback. After Levis’ defining win over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, the young gunslinger received some advice from the most unlikely of sources. Rather than let you guess (because you never will), the source of the advice was former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.
Bryant is relevant to this conversation because he had initially warned superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins against joining the deteriorating Tennessee roster. In a comment on twitter, Bryant denounced his former opinion and endorsed the young quarterback.
You know how much I hated you going to the Titans because I didn’t believe in their system for a premiere WR like yourself,” Bryant wrote. “I must admit soon as they put Will Levis in the game I knew s— was going to change. Levis at QB gives you guys a true dominant balanced attack on offense. You guys looked like real contenders last night!”
After his friendly endorsement, Bryant went on to recommend that Levis leave the drama of high profile girlfriends and other vices of fame and fortune off his plate and focusing on developing his talents. The exact quote is seen below.
“I’m sitting here looking at the recap of Dolphins vs. Titans. Then I randomly thought about Will Levis Draft Day! If you are thinking don’t take your ex-girlfriend back bro. She got endorsements sitting next to you on draft night I remember. She wasted no time making herself the priority after going viral, Bryant added. “You got a chance to be a franchise QB make it a priority! Great win champ!”
The advice may seem brotherly but one must remember that Bryant had his own fair share of drama when he was a young player. Levis seems to have bottled up much of his draft day saga and focused on improving the Tennessee team from top to bottom.
The offense has become much smoother and more balanced since Levis has stepped in and established a credible passing threat. Tennessee’s young quarterback will undoubtedly have a PR team (or at least Vrabel in his ear) telling him how to handle the new spotlight that comes with his recent success.
