The Washington Commanders open their season on Sunday with a highly-anticipated matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Unfortunately for them, they could be without two key players in their first game of the new campaign. This comes in the form of wide receiver Terry McLaurin and defensive end Chase Young.
Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin Dealing With Toe Injury
McLaurin has been nursing a turf toe injury for the past couple of weeks, which has placed his status for Week 1 against the Cardinals in doubt. On Wednesday, the Pro Bowl wide receiver was a limited participant at practice. He was on the field, but the 27-year-old could not join in on the entire session with the rest of the teammates.
The good news here is that McLaurin himself declared his availability for Sunday’s contest against the Cardinals. This comes via Josh Alper of PFT:
“McLaurin told reporters that he feels confident in the health of his toe and thinks he will be able to play against Arizona without any limitations,” Alper wrote.
Chase Young Also Misses Washington Commanders Practice
Another key player for Washington who is dealing with an injury is 24-year-old DL Chase Young. He suffered a stinger last month and has since been unable to take part in contact work during practice. The same was the case for the former No. 2 overall pick in Wednesday’s session. Young did say after practice, however, that he’s now prepared to take on a full workload. Nevertheless, team doctors will have to give him the green light before he does so.
Earlier this summer, Washington opted to decline Young’s fifth-year option. This only means that the pass rusher is now entering the final year of his current contract and that he will be a free agent at the end of the season. This has led to all sorts of rumors surrounding the former Ohio State standout, with opposing teams supposedly interested in a potential trade.
Be that as it may, Chase Young is still a member of the Commanders — for now, at least.
