Sam Howell and Eric Bieniemy are getting fresh starts

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy will have a big test in 2023. Howell, who only played as a rookie in one game last season, will be the Commanders’ starting quarterback. Bieniemy will be proving that his offensive success is more than just being a side feature of the Kansas City Chiefs machine.

Bieniemy recently came under criticism by a former player on his offense, LeSean McCoy. McCoy said the Chiefs’ play design and offense, in general, had nothing to do with Bieniemy. Former Chiefs players defended Bieniemy, and Bieniemy himself gave a classy response. Bieniemy will have a chance to prove his offensive genius while working with Howell–at least when they start getting to football.

Washington Commanders’ fifth-round draft pick Sam Howell will receive a 93 in throwing power, placing him next to the likes of Deshaun Watson.

According to a video posted by Matthew Paras with the Washington Times, Howell recently spoke to the media about what he thinks of his new offensive coordinator. Howell praised Bieniemy as a person but offered a quote that might reflect poorly on the new offensive coordinator considering McCoy’s recent comments:

“[Bieniemy and I] haven’t had the chance to talk football yet,” Howell said. “But I am super excited to get going. I am a big fan of his. Just listening to him talk here, I’m super impressed with just the man he is. Obviously, he comes from a team that’s had a lot of success, especially on the offensive side of the ball, so I’m just super excited to learn all that stuff and get started with him.”

Hopefully, Bieniemy and Howell can start talking football sooner than later. The Commanders’ defense has been strong enough to carry the team to the playoffs. But the offense hasn’t done its part.
