Eric Bieniemy was criticized by former player LeSean McCoy
Eric Bieniemy is getting a chance to prove he’s his own offensive mind in Washington. The Commanders’ new offensive coordinator was overlooked for the Kansas City Chiefs’ success due to Andy Reid and Patrick Mahoes being on the team. His case wasn’t helped by LeSean McCoy, a former player of his. Bieniemy responded to McCoy’s criticism Thursday.
McCoy went on FS1 recently and took a jab at his former coach. McCoy said that Bieniemy wasn’t involved with much of the offenses scheme during the planning. A few former Chiefs came to Bieniemy’s defense after McCoy’s comments aired. Bieniemy had his response on Thursday.
Bieniemy responds
John Keim of ESPN posted a video on Twitter of Bieniemy talking about what McCoy said. Bieniemy appeared to take the high road:
“LeSean McCoy is a future Hall of Fame runner, ok? Everybody is entitled to their own comments and how they feel,” Bieniemy said. “When it’s all said and done with, I think that’s all I have to say because he’s entitled to his own opinion.
“That’s life. Ok. You got good and you have bad. It does not impact me in any way because one thing you learn when you’re in this position, you have to learn to eliminate distractions. Alright. My job is to focus on the now. Everything outside these walls has no impact on Eric Bieniemy moving forward.”

McCoy is a two-time Super Bowl winner. He won both championships in his last two seasons. He retired following the 2020 season, so he is not eligible for the Hall of Fame yet. Those were kind words by Bieniemy. He’ll have a chance to prove McCoy and the rest of the NFL world wrong in a few seasons.
