Rayshawn Jenkins was one of many at the Safety Position to face a sudden exodus from this current team. The Jacksonville Jaguars opted to tag star edge rusher Josh Allen instead.
A seven-year NFL veteran, Jenkins will be facing free agency for the second time in his career. In a deep Free Agency class at the safety position, Jenkins is already finding plenty of suitors.
Rayshawn Jenkins Had a Solid 2023
The 2017 4th round pick out of the University of Miami, Rayshawn Jenkins spent the first four seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. By 2019 and 2020, Jenkins rose up to start for the Chargers, pocketing five interceptions in those two seasons and starting 31 of the 32 possible games for Los Angeles.
In 2021, Jenkins would sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars upon the exhaustion of his rookie contract with the Chargers. So far in those three seasons, the now-former Jacksonville Jaguars safety has collected a combined 290 tackles to accompany another five interceptions. He has also collected two of his 3.5 career sacks while with the team.
Seattle Seahawks Linked to Safety
These rival NFC West franchises will most likely compete for his services. As reported by Mike Garafolo, Jenkins has already been in Seattle:
Former #Jaguars S Rayshawn Jenkins, on a visit with the #Seahawks today, will visit the #49ers next, source says.

This week, the Seahawks had released two of their safeties in Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs. New Head Coach Mike Macdonald will have a bevy of options to replace both safeties with, and Jenkins should be on the radar for the team from Washington. However, Macdonald is only 36, and may yet seek to get his team younger, so the 30-year-old Jenkins may not be the best possible option.
San Francisco 49ers Will Also Receive a Visit from Jenkins
Garafolo has also reported on how the former Jaguars safety will be in San Francisco next. The 49ers have been snakebitten in the postseason as of late, having made the NFC Championship in all of the past four seasons, but losing three of their appearances. Their fourth turned into a run to Super Bowl 58, which ended in a loss to Kansas City.
As Nick Sorensen embarks on his first season as 49ers DC, he gains control of the 3rd-best scoring defense from 2023. The 49ers already have a solid rotation at the safety position, which includes former Super Bowl champion Logan Ryan. Adding the seven year veteran, then, would offer an increased boost to a unit that had to spend the final seven minutes of Super Bowl 58 on the field.
