The Seattle Seahawks announced on may fifth the complete termination of their four year deal tenure with Jamal Adams following the controversies around the highest-paid safety in NFL history. This is also after multiple previous hints from Seattle of terminating his tenure since 2023. The team also confirmed the termination of Quandre Diggs, making both safeties now free agents with no confirmed NFL team showing interest at the moment.
Jamal Adams cut from Seattle Seahawks after only 34 game
After the Seahawks’ decision of signing Adams for $70 million, making him the highest-paid safety in NFL history, the team finally decided to move on. This was done due to the conflictive behavior of the strong safety, as he was already fined $50,000 for being conflictive with a neurotrauma consultant who examined him for a concussion.
Also, Adams involved himself in a controversy with a New York Jets reporter who was not to his liking. Apparently, Adams uploaded to twitter a picture from the New York Jets reporter’s wife where he was mocking her appearance, adding offensive captions on a zoomed in picture of the reporter’s wife.
Seattle Seahawks backs off midway the most expensive deal for a safety
Even though Jamal Adams was a All-Pro strong safety with the New York Jets, he never got to play a full season at the Seattle Seahawks. His start on the team was promising, but a series of injuries, particularly a shoulder problem that needed surgery, did not allow Adams to deliver the greatest season, none of wich could justify the $70 million investment that the team was trying to fulfill.
While Jamal Adams delivered better seasons on New York Jets, he clearly was not free of complications. On the “All Things Covered” podcast hosted by Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson and former NFL cornerback Bryant McFadden, Adams declared the following:
“Bro, I fought depression in New York […] There’s been so many times where I came home after a tough loss and just sat in my room in the dark – no phone, no TV. (My dad) hated to see me like that. It killed my pops so much … He was calling my agent at the time and saying, ‘Hey man, I don’t like seeing my son like this. I need him out of this situation.’ It took a toll on my life outside of football.”
