Former Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers has been out of the league for many years now. He has been involved in a good number of rumors regarding a potential NFL comeback soon, but it has not happened to this point. However, one of his old teammates, Shawne Merriman revealed that Rivers still wants to play in the league for a year or two and that the quarterback hasn’t officially retired yet.
“I still think Philip can play another year or two if a team gets down here in the playoffs and they need a QB to come off the street.”

Philip Rivers Rumors
Merriman told “TMZ Sports” that the reason Rivers has not officially retired yet is because he still wants to play in the league.
I still think Philip can play another year or two if a team gets down here in the playoffs and they need a quarterback to come off the street, Phil can do it.
While this just seems like speculation, it can become a real possibility, especially with the postseason quickly approaching. Teams like the Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, and many other teams in the playoff race are down to their second or even third-string quarterbacks, which could bite them in the playoffs. Bringing in a proven veteran in Rivers could give these teams the boos that they need to make a Super Bowl run, and would be the first time Rivers himself could play in the big game.
Back To Glory?
Rivers was one of the best quarterbacks in the league during his 17-year career, amounting to 63,440 passing yards and 421 touchdowns. The eight-time Pro Bowler spent the vast majority of his career with the Chargers (2004-2019) and was able to play at an elite level consistently. He has thrown for more than 4,000 yards in 12 of his 17 seasons in the league, putting him amongst the passing yard leaders to ever play.
While this sounds intriguing and could be a real possibility, the likelihood of this happening seems low, at least for this season. Depending on what teams decide to do in the offseason, there is a good chance a quarterback-needy team could look in the direction of Rivers and give him another shot at playing in the NFL.
