The New Orleans Saints are still making acquisitions as training camp is set to begin. Earlier today, it was revealed that they came to an agreement with one notable wide receiver of theirs.
Who is the wide receiver? What does their new deal look like? Read below to find out.
New Orleans Saints Extend WR Rashid Shaheed

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the New Orleans Saints have extended the contract of WR Rashid Shaheed. He was an exclusive rights free agent. The contract extension will last one year, and it is worth around $5.2 million.
He has played just 27 games in two years in the NFL. What has he done in that stretch? Shaheed has 1,207 career receiving yards and seven touchdown receptions.
Shaheed Cashes In

With this extension worth over $5 million, Shaheed will earn more money in one season than he has in his entire career. Admittedly, his career has not been that long so far. However, in his first two seasons in the NFL, Shaheed earned a total of just over $1.5 million.
So, why does Shaheed have such low career earnings when rookies like Caleb Williams get awarded nearly $40 million? The answer is that he had a very different journey making his way onto an NFL roster.
You see, Shaheed originally signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2022. His production during his first two seasons warranted New Orleans to extend his contract along with giving him a raise. Now, Shaheed gets to reap the benefits of his solid production on the football field.
New Orleans Saints Moving Forward

With this move, the Saints lock up another offensive weapon for QB Derek Carr. He needs all the help he can get considering his first season with the Saints was a disappointing one. Many people expected New Orleans to win the NFC South once they signed Carr last season. However, the team ended up coming one win short of even making the playoffs as a wild card team.
On top of this, New Orleans’ best wide receiver is not fully healthy right now. Chris Olave is currently dealing with a minor shoulder injury. However, he is expected to be with the team at the start of training camp. Now, the Saints’ coaching staff can sleep easier knowing Shaheed is secured if something ends up going wrong with Olave.
