The Buffalo Bills signed a Super Bowl-winning quarterback to the practice squad after losing a backup to the injured reserve this week. The Bills had to place veteran backup Matt Barkley on the injured reserve due to an elbow injury.

The injury cleared the path for backup quarterback Kyle Allen to be named the Bills QB2 to start the regular season behind starting quarterback Josh Allen. According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Bills are signing former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Shane Buechele to the practice squad.

Buechele is a UDFA signed by the Chiefs in 2021. The 25-year-old quarterback played for Texas and transferred to SMU in college. Buechele was a member of the Chiefs when they won Super Bowl LVII in February.
Buechele will be the Bills QB3 likely, at least until Barkley can return. He could be called up for a few regular season games, as Barkley will miss at least the first four games this season.
