The Kansas City Chiefs are riding high ever since their Super Bowl win, but now as free agency fast approaches there are many questions for the team heading into next year. While there are questions about whether L’Jarius Sneed will be with the team next year, there is nothing more important, according to the Brett Veach the GM, than bringing back their defensive star Chris Jones.
Jones posted a cryptic tweet earlier on Thursday, that just read, “kc….” Later on in the day, head coach Andy Reid was asked about the tweet and the progress on bringing back Chris Jones for next season on the Rich Eisen Show.
Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid Comments On Cryptic Tweet
On Rich Eisen’s show Reid was asked about the Tweet and he admitted that there are definitely a few ways that you can look at it. He and the rest of the Chiefs staff are hoping that they can find a way to bring him back as he is fundamental to their success. He is probably the second most important player on the team behind Patrick Mahomes.
“Well, that could be taken a couple of different ways,” Reid said. “But I like the dot, dots…”
“I’m hoping. I can’t give you anything because I don’t have a whole lot. I’m doing all these media things, so maybe something is going better than I think it is.
“We’d love to have him back. Brett Veach and his gang are working through that. Chris Shea works with our cap and does the contracts. So, they’re all working through this thing. They’ve had great communication. So, we’ll just see where it goes from here.”
Chris Jones Could Be Playing Elsewhere In 2024
While Jones has been vocal in his desire to stay with the team and try to run it back for a third straight year, this tweet has brought up a couple questions about whether or not that will happen. Jones deserves to be one of the highest paid players in the NFL, and it just may not be in the cards for the team to keep him and still pay a bunch of their other stars.
The tweet, as coach Reid said, can be taken in different ways. The most probable is that Jones wants to be with the team he just wants the right amount of money. Jones sat out the first few games of this past season and their defense did not look the same without him.
If the team can’t bring him in it would probably be an even bigger loss than when Tyreek Hill went to the Miami Dolphins. The most probable outcome is that Jones returns to the team, and that he is just waiting for them to offer him the number he wants.
