The Kansas City Chiefs are back to back Super Bowl champions and then is not stopping them from making tons of moves this off season to prepare to do something no team has ever done. They will look to go win back to back to back next season which is a feat that no team has ever been able to accomplish.
Kansas City Chiefs Making Tons Of Moves
They have already cut struggling receiver Marquez Valdez-Scantling and that has freed up millions in cap space. It has been reported on Wednesday they are also franchise tagging their elite corner back L’Jarius Sneed. The team now is fully focused on bringing back their second best player on the team Chris Jones. It has been reported that bringing back Jones is the primary focus of the team and all they are focused on right now.
Per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Kansas City is “focused” on re-signing Jones.
This team’s defense was a huge reason why they ended the season on top as they were the No. 2-ranked defense all season and allowed 63 combined points in four playoff victories. Losing Jones would be the biggest possible loss the team could take out side of Patrick Mahomes.
Keeping Chris Jones Is At The Top Of The List
In the entire NFL, Chris Jones may be the most impactful defensive player there is. Certainly he was the most impactful all through the post season and especially the Super Bowl. It is not secret at all that the team is solely focused on bringing him back.
General manager Brett Veach said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that locking down the star to a new contract is “at the top of the list.”
“I love Chris,” Veach said, per NFL.com. “Tried really hard to get something done and we didn’t. When we got together right after that Detroit game, we had a great talk. Both parties want to be here, so we’ll get to work. He’s certainly a guy we want back and love and want to see him finish his career in Kansas City.”
Jones also shared his desire to stay with the team at the Super Bowl Parade saying that he is not going anywhere before starting a three peat chant. So it does seem like the two parties will get a deal done sooner rather than later. They have opened up the cap space and now they need to pay the man that has been crucial to their success. Having Mahomes on one side of the ball and Jones on the other side has been the two crucial pieces in the newest dynasty of the NFL.
