Bill Belichick’s future in the NFL is a big question mark after he missed out on the Atlanta Falcons head coaching job. With that said, a lot of fans are asking: Is this it for the legendary coach?
The simple answer to that is no. However, NFL fans might need to wait for some time to see Belichick on the sidelines once again.
Bill Belichick Still Wants To Coach
At this point with several head coaching vacancies in the NFL already filled, it’s unlikely for Belichick to land a head coaching job. Furthermore, the only real interest he got was from the Falcons, and even Atlanta decided to go to a different path and hired Raheem Morris instead.
With that said, it’s safe to expect that Belichick won’t have a coaching gig when the 2024 season starts.
Despite that, though, Belichick reportedly has no plan to call it a career just yet. He will be patient when it comes to finding another coaching job, knowing full well that it would be his last in the NFL. Not to mention that the veteran head coach is expected to be picky with his options and would want total control when he takes over a team. For that, he’s willing to wait and try again in 2025, per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
Crazy as it sounds, Bill Belichick is unlikely to coach in the NFL in the 2024 season. It will be the first time since the 1974 season that Belichick has not been with an NFL team.
But sources tell CBS Sports not to count the GOAT out for 2025. There remains a desire for Belichick to return to the sidelines … he just has to do it on his terms.
Considering that Belichick is one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, it’s highly possible that an opportunity will come knocking at him. So, it only makes sense for him to be patient.
If an NFL team even struggles in 2024 and decides to fire their head coach, Belichick would likely be a strong candidate for the role. He’s well-respected around the league, and his body of work speaks for himself–even though his last few years with the New England Patriots aren’t that great.
Bill Belichick Linked With the Kansas City Chiefs?
Amid talks about his future, the idea of Bill Belichick taking over the Kansas City Chiefs has been floated by multiple insiders recently.
Adam Schefter of ESPN sparked the conversation, noting that Belichick could be a good fit if Andy Reid decides to walk away from the Chiefs should they win the Super Bowl this 2024.
Craig Carton of FOX Sports poured more gasoline on that buzz, as he claimed that Reid would retire after the season and Belichick would take over from him.
While it’s something that’s fun to talk about, it does seem like a longshot for Reid to retire, especially when you consider how dominant the Chiefs have been over the years.
For now, fans will have to be patient as well when it comes to seeing Belichick coach again.
