The NFL has experienced a crazy movement at head coach this off season, and now from the 8 openings that were available just a few weeks ago there is no just 2 openings left with most teams getting their guys quickly. Bill Belichick is still jobless and it looks like that is how it is going to stay for the 2024 season.
NFL Legend Bill Belichick Is Pissed
The Atlanta Falcons were really the only team that was looking at the 6 time Super Bowl winning coach Belichick and they brought him in for multiple interviews. However, the news broke yesterday that the Falcons are going with Raheem Morris to be the new head coach of the team going forward, leaving Belichick high and dry.
Belichick was considered to be the favorite by odds makers for Falcons owner Arthur Blank to choose as the next head coach, but now it seems that Belichick has no options. On NBC Sports Boston, Analyst Greg Bedard offered insight into what exactly went down between the coach and Atlanta and how Belichick is feeling about it.
Bill Belichick Thought He Would Be Atlanta Falcons Head Coach
It appeared that it was almost a done deal for Belichick to become the next coach until Arthur Blank chose to go in a different direction. Bedard was quoted saying:
“I think Bill thought he had the Falcons in his back pocket,” Bedard said. “Arthur Blank – I know – certainly wanted to hire Bill early in the process, but got away from him because Arthur Blank is one of those guys who listens to everybody.”
It seems like Blank really listened to everyone as they made tons of interviews for many different coaches before locking in on Raheem Morris. Bedard also commented on how Belichick must be feeling and he is far from a happy camper.
“I think he’s pissed. I think he’s really upset about this. I think he had this job. I can tell you this: I really hope Belichick lands in the NFC South if he gets a next job. I would like to see what he does to the Falcons each time he plays them.”
Belichick is probably not going to get an NFC South job as they are all closed now, but maybe he could in the future. As there is now only two openings left, Belichick may not even get a job for next season and he will have to wait till next off season to find a coaching position.
