The New York Jets have had a couple of dramatic busy weeks this month. After falling to the Minnesota Vikings in London, falling to 2-3 on the season, they fired head coach Robert Saleh and appointed defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as his interim replacement.
After losing to the Buffalo Bills last weekend, falling to 2-4, they traded for wide receiver Davante Adams. He had long been rumored to be a trade target of theirs due to his connection with four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.
While these moves were, in a lot of ways, expected, there was still one dark cloud hanging over the organization: the Haason Reddick holdout. After acquiring the two-time Pro Bowler for a conditional third-round pick this offseason, the Jets hoped that he would bolster their already-dominant defense.
However, Reddick refused to report to the team after contract extension talks broke down early in the summer. He missed OTA’s, training camp, and the first six (soon to be seven) games of the season.
That saga, though, has finally come to an end.
The New York Jets and Haason Reddick Have Agreed on a Reworked Contract for 2024
Earlier this morning, it was reported that the Jets and Reddick have finally agreed to a reworked contract for the remainder of the 2024 season. While it is obviously too late for him to play tonight, he will report to the team on Monday and play out the remainder of his deal.

Obviously, the goal now is that the addition of Reddick, along with Adams, will boost the Jets team and propel them to reach their goal of competing for a Super Bowl this year.
As for Reddick and his long-term future, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, will be negotiating an extension with New York. Whether or not the two sides will agree to one remains to be seen.
New York Jets Fans Are Furious with the Haason Reddick Contract
As a result of his holdout, Reddick accrued millions of dollars’ worth of fines from the Jets and the NFL. In total, he owes about $12 million for his decision not to report to the team.
However, the Jets have waived their portion of those fines (though he does have to pay the mandated NFL fines). Additionally, he is going to earn $9.5 million from New York for playing in their remaining 10 games (after Sunday).
After all this drama, the “reworked” contract turns out to be what he would have earned in 10 games anyway.
Fans are livid:
So basically missed games for nada… https://t.co/tnWFFSqArD

While it may appear confusing as to way Reddick is not getting an extension now or more immediate money on the surface, it is important to note on important thing about the Jets: they do not negotiate contract extensions with players that are holding out.
Both owner Woody Johnson and general manager Joe Douglas have stated repeatedly that Reddick needs to report to the team before they will sit down with him and negotiate.
After getting dropped by his previous agency, perhaps Reddick (with some prodding from Rosenhaus) finally realized that if he was going to make any money this year, he had to play on what he had previously agreed to.
