The New York Jets have a lot of holes on the offensive side of their roster that they are trying to patch up for the 2024 season. The offense had more than just struggles as they finished the season 30th in passing yards per game (171.7) and 29th in scoring (15.8). With wide receiver Garrett Wilson still dominating, the need for another wide receiver was prevalent to anyone watching the team.
It is being reported that the New York Jets are interested in wide receiver Calvin Ridley this offseason but the price is expected to be hefty. Ridley had a strong season for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season as he finished with 76 catches on 136 targets for 1,016 yards (13.4 yards per reception) with eight receiving touchdowns. The Jets reportedly had interest years ago for him but the interest is still there.
While we have seen some significant wide receivers like Tee Higgins and Michael Pittman Jr expected to be franchise-tagged, the Jacksonville Jaguars seemingly do not have the appetite for it. If the Jags were to do so, they would surrender a second-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons as part of their trade.
Should the New York Jets go after Calvin Ridley this offseason?
The New York Jets have more than just a hole at the wide receiver position but a deal with Calvin Ridley gives the team some clarity. This would add a second 1,000-yard wide receiver to pair with Wilson and another target for the returning Aaron Rodgers.
More importantly, it gives the team a chance to lock in on who they are looking to select in the 2024 NFL draft. With the team holding the 10th-overall pick and no second-round selection this year, they are going to need to make sure they get the right player. With the potential acquisition of Ridley, this allows the Jets to focus on building the offensive line.
Players like Joe Alt, Ol Fashanu, JC Latham and Taliese Fuaga are among the top offensive linemen in the draft so expect Gang Green to target them. Getting Ridley could be pricey but it definitely would improve the team.
