With the divisional games this weekend, the New York Giants, led by Daniel Jones, will face the Eagles Saturday night. New York has a long history of being the underdogs in a potential Super Bowl run. In the playoffs, the New York Giants have been successful, with four championships in their runs. New York Giants fans have been surprised this season by a turnaround by first-year head coach Brian Daboll.  The Philadelphia Eagles, in this matchup, have a prominent advantage over the Giants, but there is a chance. New York has done well in surprising their opponents, but Philly has the upper hand in this game Saturday. Here is a history of the New York Giants’ underdog super bowl runs.

    New York Underdog History

New York’s history of being underdogs began in the 90s with beating the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl. The Giants have always been the underdogs in their Super Bowl runs, especially in their cinderella run. New York is also known to take down better competitors in the past, including the undefeated Patriots. The Giants were underdogs in the wild-card game against a Vikings team with top-tier offensive talent. If everything goes right with the Giants this weekend, they could beat another strong opponent in their playoff history. New York has done well against the odds in their history and could do it again. In a possible playoff run, the Giants will need to overcome the odds again this weekend.

    New York Giants Playoff Upsets

The Giants have also gotten some victories over better teams in the past during their recent super bowl runs. One of the bigger wins came in the 2007 super bowl run beating the Cowboys at Texas Stadium. New York has also gotten their biggest win against the 18-0 Patriots. The Giants also had a big win in their 2011 run against a dominant Packers team in the divisional game. Even recently, the Giants have beaten a fraudulent Vikings team in the wild-card game. New York could beat the Eagles if they beat Jalen Hurts’ weapons and overcome their stout defense. The Giants defense is shown to be stout against the Vikings and could use that same game plan Saturday night.

    A Potential Upset Saturday Night?

Even though the Giants have this history of recent and past losses, the Giants have a chance to win Saturday. The Giants have been underdogs in the past and beaten the odds. A piece of history that defines the New York Giants is being the underdogs in their super bowl runs. New York is currently against an 8-point spread favoring the Eagles chances Saturday, with pundits not giving them a chance. For the Giants to have a slimmer chance, they need to do everything right to win. Even with these bad odds, the Giants this season wasn’t supposed to make the playoffs like past Super Bowl runs. While winning is slim, the New York Giants have overcome those odds before.

Can The New York Giants Win?

This Giants and Eagles game, while the odds are not good, isn’t the first time they faced an adversary. New York has dealt with more superior foes in their history and could overcome them.  New York, with a decent offense and defense, could get hot and go on a run. This current playoff run could lead to something more if the Giants win on the divisional weekend. If the Giants can make another magical run, they need some magic to win against an outstanding opponent. The Giants have done well against better teams in the past, leading them to three super bowls. With the divisional game this Saturday, New York will need everything to right to win against the Eagles.
