After losing superstar running back Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, the New York Giants have made a quick move to replace him by agreeing to terms with veteran Devin Singletary. The deal is expected to be worth $16.5 million for a 3-year period according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Singletary, who is coming off a career best year with the Houston Texans will now take Barkley’s role as the Giants workhorse back. He will be under contract in New York through the 2026 NFL season and hope to build on his 2023 campaign.
Devin Singletary Rushed for Career High 898 Yards in 2023 Season
Singletary agreed to a 1-year deal with Houston last off-season after playing the last 4 seasons in Buffalo. He started the season behind fellow running back Dameon Pierce on the depth chart, but was able to overtake him during the middle of the year.
Singletary rushed for 898 yards and 4 touchdowns while adding 30 catches for 193 yards as a receiver. His efforts in 2023 have afforded him another contract with New York and will ultimately lead the charge in the backfield next season.
Singletary Reunited with New York Giants HC Brian Daboll
While playing for the Buffalo Bills during his first 4 seasons, his offensive coordinator was none other than Brian Daboll. Who is now the current head coach for New York. Singletary rushed for 3,151 yards and 16 total touchdowns in 61 career games with Buffalo and will have another opportunity to play in Daboll’s offensive scheme.
With Barkley heading to Philadelphia, Singletary will join a running back room with Matt Breida, Gary Brightwell and Eric Gray. However, the Giants still have decisions to make regarding key positions on offense before the 2024 NFL Season begins.
