College Football seems never to have a full offseason anymore. This was made clear again today as Oklahoma quarterback General Booty entered the transfer portal very late in this year’s recruiting and transfer portal cycle.
Aside from having perhaps one of the more interesting names in college football, General Booty was a backup quarterback at one of the most successful quarterback schools in the country – Oklahoma. Yes, he was a third-string quarterback last year and may have been in the same position this year, but a third-string quarterback at Oklahoma would probably be a backup at most other P4 schools and a starter at many G5 schools.
Here are five teams that may pick up General Booty.
5. BYU Could Use General Booty For Depth

BYU has already added three transfer quarterbacks this off-season. However, none of them are definite big-name quarterbacks. They don’t have a definite starter yet, even after spring football. It would be crazy to add a fourth quarterback. However, General Booty may just be the quarterback the Cougars seek. Of all the quarterbacks that the Cougars have added, none would likely create as much buzzer interest as if Booty were to join the team.
Booty is looking to start for a power team. If he has contacted BYU, it would be a very good choice for him to pursue.
4. Arkansas Has a Starter, But Not Proven
The Razorbacks may have found their starter in Boise State transfer Taylor Greene. However, Green is viewed more as a project player, with plenty of upside and risk. He played well during the spring, but playing on the Smurf turf in Boise is much different from traveling to play in front of SEC crowds. While Booty has never played in a major college football environment, the Razorbacks may still want his experience of at least being on the sidelines and big games. It wouldn’t be a huge culture change going from Norman to Fayetteville.
3. Liberty’s Next Star?

Liberty is one of the up-and-coming programs in college football at the G5 level. Coming out of high school in 2019, the Liberty Flames were actually the first team to offer Booty a scholarship session. Kaidon Salter Will be returning for the flames, who led the team to a Fiesta Bowl berth last season. However, if Booty is in a position where he is OK to be right back up for one more season, he could end up being the next starting quarterback for Liberty, which again is one of the best G5 teams, if not the best in the nation.
2. Tulsa is Close to Home
Often, backup players who want to play immediately transfer from their current school to another close school in the general area. In this case, it would be the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. Tulsa had a tough season last year, finishing with a 4-8 overall record, and desperately could have used an athletic quarterback. In fact, Tulsa scored less than 14 points in three games last season, suggesting they need a spark from the quarterback position.
1. UCLA May Be Looking to Make a Splash

UCLA Bruins are definitely in a position that could get very interesting. With Chip Kelly being gone and DeShaun Foster and Eric Bieniemy taking over the office and coaching positions, they may be looking to go in a new direction. The current likely starter is your senior, Ethan Garbers. However, Garbers has been underwhelming, to say the least, in his career. While General Booty may not be the five-star recruit that UCLA eventually wants to get, he certainly would at least bring interest to the position and set the team up well for the future.
