After allowing the 6th-most pressures and the 3rd-most sacks last season, the Carolina Panthers overhauled the offensive line in the offseason by signing Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt and releasing their starting center, Bradley Bozeman.
The Panthers replaced Bozeman with one of their guards and plan on converting him to center.
The Carolina Panthers converted their offensive lineman from guard to center
The Panthers plan on converting Austin Corbett from guard to center for the 2024 season. Corbett has yet to record a regular-season snap at center in his six-year career but played in 203 preseason snaps in his rookie season with the Browns.
Corbett isn’t the only offensive lineman getting reps at center. Their 3rd round pick is getting reps at a new position as well.
The Carolina Panthers 3rd round pick is getting reps at a new position
Since Austin Corbett has dealt with injuries over the past two seasons, the Panthers needed a backup plan in case he gets injured. Brady Christensen is getting reps at center, a new position for him.
The Panthers drafted Christensen in the 3rd round, 70th overall of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has played in 34 games and started 24 in his career. He started six games at left tackle, right guard, and right tackle as a rookie, 17 games at left guard in his second season, and one game at left guard in his third season before he suffered a season-ending bicep injury.
The Carolina Panthers are confident in both Austin Corbett and Brady Christensen
General Manager Dan Morgan is confident Corbett and Christensen can successfully transition to center.
“Yeah, you know, I think I said before we feel really good about Austin Corbett there at center,” said GM Dan Morgan on Saturday. “I think he’s progressing well, and I think Dave (Canales) would say the same thing to you guys. I think him, along with Brady Christensen, you know, he’s been getting some snaps at center. You know, we feel like he has a lot of potential there as well. You know, so we feel good about it, but we are always going to be looking to challenge our roster and get better and create that competition. We’re not going to leave anything — we’re not going to close the door on bringing somebody else in as well.”
Will the center position be a strength or a weakness for the Carolina Panthers’ offensive line?
