The New York Giants sign a linebacker

The New York Giants have had a busy week of contracts. The Giants signed quarterback Daniel Jones before the franchise tag deadline on Tuesday. That move allowed the Giants to apply the tag to running back Saquon Barkley. With key pieces of the offense taken care of, the Giants turned their eyes to the defense on Wednesday.

According to a statement by the Giants, the team signed linebacker Jarrad Davis to a new contract.

Per the statement, the Giants signed Davis off waivers from the Detroit Lions last season. Davis was a first-round pick by the Lions in 2017:

“The veteran linebacker also started both postseason games for the Giants and totaled seven tackles (five solo) and one quarterback hit across the two games.

Originally the No. 21 overall pick by the Lions in the 2017 NFL Draft, Davis played his first four seasons in Detroit. He then signed with the New York Jets prior to the 2021 season, where he played nine games with five starts.

The 28-year-old’s career totals include 344 tackles (226 solo), 11 sacks, 24 quarterback hits, 20 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one interception and 10 pass breakups in 68 games (51 starts).”

Davis seemed to fit in well with the Giants’ defense towards the end of last season. Davis is a player the Giants can sign for a relatively low price after the team spent considerable money on the offense this week.
