The New Orleans Saints are looking to fill out their offensive roster. They have signed former Raiders wide receiver Bryan Edwards to a deal to help fill out the edges of the receiver room. After a down year last year, the team is hoping that the third-year receiver can rekindle some magic with an old teammate.
New Orleans Saints Sign Bryan Edwards
Edwards was a third-round pick of the Raiders out of South Carolina. He had a good connection with quarterback Derek Carr. He caught 34 receptions for 571 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2021. He has a big frame which allows him to make contested catches. Once the new regime of Josh McDaniels came in, Edwards was traded to the Atlanta Falcons after an injury in training camp slowed his production. The Saints are hoping that he can reconnect with Carr in New Orleans and produce some similar numbers.
Rounding Out The Offense
The Saints offense already has some good pieces. Chris Olave had a great rookie season and looks to build on that success. Alvin Kamara can still be one of the most dynamic backs in the league. Carr, while he has his faults, is a top-half-of-the-league quarterback. A signing like Edwards is one that can hopefully move the needle enough to give the offense a little more punch. The NFC South is a wide-open race now that Tom Brady has retired. The team is hoping to compete for the division title and make it back to the playoffs.
The New Orleans Saints signing Bryan Edwards is not one that will make all the headlines but it is signings like these that can make or break a season. The Saints look to rebound after a rough season last year. They have made some splashy signings and it will be interesting to see if any of them pan out.
