The New England Patriots have been largely linked with Jayden Daniels in the 2024 NFL Draft, and by the looks of it, they really want the 2023 Heisman winner.
With the Patriots owning the no. 3 pick in the upcoming draft, they have a chance to take Daniels. Nonetheless, that will still depend on who the Washington Commanders pick at second–with Caleb Williams already projected to go no. 1 to the Chicago Bears.
New England Patriots Impressed With Jayden Daniels
Amid the NFL Scouting Combine throughout the week, Daniels has reportedly impressed the Patriots and a number of other teams as he makes his case as one of the top picks in the class.
Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report highlighted as much, emphasizing that Daniels has really solidified himself to be a “consensus Top 3 pick” in the draft.
“What I’ve been hearing about Jayden Daniels is a lot of really good things. First of all, his numbers almost mirrored Joe Burrow’s Heisman numbers. … It’s my understanding that the Patriots really are impressed with Jayden Daniels. They love the kid, they love the player, and that’s actually the perception I got from quite a few teams. Jayden Daniels is a terrific young guy, really smart, really sharp, good leader,” Shultz said of Daniels and what he has been hearing about the LSU standout in the combine.
It’s definitely interesting to hear the Patriots’ thoughts on Daniels, especially after recent reports that revealed how Bill Belichick wanted the said quarterback prior to his New England exit. Belichick was rumored to be targeting Daniels and even consider him as the top quarterback of the class.
Jerod Mayo has since taken over the Patriots, though it seems they continue to share the same assessment on Daniels as Belichick.
New England Patriots Linked With Jayden Daniels.
For what it’s worth, the Patriots have been predicted to take Jayden Daniels in the 2024 NFL Draft. The hope is they wouldn’t need to trade up with the Washington Commanders to take the youngster, with Seth Walder of ESPN seeing that scenario from happening.
In his recent piece predicting the starting quarterbacks of every NFL team in 2024, Walder has Daniels going to the Patriots, while the Commanders take Drake Maye with the second overall selection.
Here’s what Walder wrote about the decision:
“Maybe the Patriots will trade down or become tantalized by Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and take him with the No. 3 pick. But this is a team that needs a quarterback after suffering with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe last season and is in range to get a high-end rookie without trading up. That’s usually too good a position for teams to pass up, and LSU’s Daniels fits here.”
Considering the recent updates on the Patriots and the fact that many experts believe Daniels is a brilliant fit for the team, it’s looking more and more likely that New England drafts the LSU product.
Of course nothing is certain until the team officially makes their decision. Nonetheless, it’s definitely a storyline worth keeping an eye on come April’s rookie selection.
