The Michigan Wolverines are national champions after defeating the Washington Huskies. Earlier in the week, head coach Jim Harbaugh had some high praise for quarterback JJ McCarthy. He thinks that McCarthy is the greatest Michigan quarterback of all time. This is a bold claim considering the rich history of the program. After the victory, Harbaugh doubled down on his comments.
“I’ve said it before, but right here, this is the greatest quarterback in University of Michigan — college football history.”

Michigan Wolverines Jim Harbaugh On JJ McCarthy
“I’ve said it before, but right here, this is the greatest quarterback in University of Michigan — college football history,” Harbaugh said after the game. The accolades are certainly there. McCarthy is 27-1 in his career with the lone loss coming in last season’s College Football Playoff. He is a three-time Big Ten champion and is now a national champion. McCarthy also has a lot of personal achievements as he was named 1st team All-Big Ten and won the Griese-Brees QB of the Year.
Let’s Pour Some Cold Water On This
There is no doubt that McCarthy’s run has been great. He has made many plays during his time at Michigan. However, he has benefitted from one of the most dominating rushing attacks in the nation. Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards make the life of any quarterback easy. This is on top of one of the best defenses in college football. The Huskies had one of the best offenses in college football and were held to a measly 13 points. Tonight McCarthy was 10/18 for 140 yards. He didn’t lose them the game but he also didn’t win it.
Regardless of who deserves the credit, the whole team played a huge role in this game. Michigan now heads into an offseason with a lot of questions but this season is one that fans will remember for a long time.
