MichiThe two-headed monster in the Wolverine’s backfield looked better than ever, Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards who totaled a combined 339 rushing yards, against a Penn State defense that was ranked fifth in the nation against the run. Another dominant win for the Wolverines in the Big House, this time against number ten ranked Penn State. The defense and running game picked up right where they left off last week putting up great performances again. The Wolverines defense was stellar again leading them to a dominate 41-17 victory over Penn State, allowing only one offensive touchdown, and allowing only 268 total yards of offense.
Wolverines Offensive Stars
The two-headed monster of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards absolutely torched the Penn State defense and accounted for all four of Michigan’s touchdowns.
Blake Corum added to his streak of games with 100-yards rushing, by rushing the ball 28 times for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Corum added another monster game to his resume, and he continues to sneak into the Heisman conversation more and more each week. His performance this week increases his season totals to 901 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns, as the Wolverines continue to feed him the ball.
For Donovan Edwards this game was a major breakout game, while he has been used in some passing situations, most of his snaps have come only to give Corum a break, however Edwards showed what he is really capable of today. Edwards rushed 16 times for 173 yards and two touchdowns, showing that he is a dominant force in the run game as well.
The final star that deserves to be mentioned on offense, is a group rather than a player, the Wolverines offensive line opened huge holes for both running backs during the entire game, and made it possible for Corum and Edwards to torch the Penn State defense that was ranked fifth in the nation against the run coming into the game. The two-headed monster of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards looks to be a dominant force that will be hard to slow down in the weeks to come.
Wolverines Defensive Stars
Even though the defense did not record many stats outside of two sacks by Taylor Upshaw(1.5) and Michael Barrett(0.5), the defense dominated the Penn State offense throughout the entire game. The Wolverine’s defense held the two Penn State quarterbacks Sean Clifford and Drew Allar to a combined 12 of 29 passing for 157 yards.
The Wolverine’s defensive line was in the backfield on what seemed like every play even when only four players rushed, and the secondary played tight coverage that forced the 17 incompletions. The run defense played also played well allowing 111 yards on 22 carries, with 62 of those yards coming from one rush by quarterback Sean Clifford. Overall, the defense dominated from start to finish much like they have all year up to this point, and the defense looks to continue dominating against Michigan State who they will face after an off week next week.
Wolverines Special Teams Stars
Another player who deserves to be mentioned for his efforts is Jake Moody. Moody scored 15 of the Wolverine’s points going four of four on his Field Goal attempts and three of three on extra point attempts. While he may not have been the winning factor for the Wolverines, having a reliable kicker is always helpful, and the kickers performances deserve to be shown off as much as anyone else’s.
