The possibility of the Miami Dolphins playing without star running back De’Von Achane on Friday is slowly setting in after the team’s most recent roster move. The Dolphins elevated running back Darrynton Evans from the practice squad on Thursday, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Evans signed to the Miami practice squad earlier this week. He was waived by the Chicago Bears earlier this month. The Dolphins play the New York Jets on Friday.
Darrynton Evans: Journeyman Running Back Finds New Home in Miami
Darrynton Evans has signed with four teams this year, including putting pen to paper with Miami twice. Evans was a member of the Buffalo Bills during the preseason, rushing 21 times for 108 yards and one score, but did not survive final roster cuts. He quickly got picked up by the Dolphins but had his contract terminated in early October. The Appalachian State product joined the Chicago Bears the following day, playing five games and taking 30 rush attempts for 105 yards and a score.
Evans, a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, played his first two years with the Tennessee Titans. He ran 16 times for 61 yards before being released after the 2021 season. He played the following year with the Bears, rushing 14 times for 64 yards.
Miami Dolphins: Potentially Shorthanded in the Running Back Room Friday
The Dolphins could be without two running backs in Week 12. They placed Salvon Ahmed on the season-ending injured reserve earlier this week, while De’Von Achane’s status remains questionable. Achane has practiced in a limited fashion after injuring his knee in his team’s 20-13 win over the Raiders last Sunday. He has averaged a laughable 11.8 yards per carry this season.
The Dolphins will lean on Raheem Mostert if Achane can’t play. The 31-year-old has 691 rushing yards and an NFL-high 11 rushing touchdowns. Darrynton Evans and Jeff Wilson will get the opportunities behind Mostert sans Achane and Ahmed.
