The Philadelphia Eagles signed a former Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman before the start of mandatory OTAs this month. The Eagles needed to boost their depth on the offensive line before training camp this summer.
The Philadelphia Eagles sign an offensive lineman
According to the Eagles’ website, the team signed offensive lineman Max Scharping. They expect Scharping to be able to fill in at right and left tackle:
A second-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2019 out of Northern Illinois, Scharping spent his first three seasons in Houston before being claimed off waivers by the Bengals prior to the 2022 season. Cincinnati re-signed Scharping for the 2023 season.
Over the past two seasons with the Bengals, Scharping has played in 34 games, including the playoffs. In the Bengals’ run to the AFC Championship Game in 2022, Scharping started at right guard in all three playoff games following a Week 18 injury to Alex Cappa.
The 6-foot-6, 325-pound Scharping turns 28 in August.
Per Pro Football Focus, Scharping earned a 78.8 overall grade for the 13 offensive blocks he made last season. He’s appeared in 79 games and started in 33.
