New York Giants right tackle Evan Neal is currently on the PUP list for camp. Neal did not practice on Wednesday for New York. It was the first day of practice for the Giants. With Neal being sidelined, they wasted no time in putting Jermaine Eluemunor at right tackle. Eluemunor was signed as a free agent this offseason.
He played with the Las Vegas Raiders last season and is very familiar with offensive line coach Camren Bricillo. During practice on Wednesday morning, Eluemunor suffered an injury and he needed to be helped off the field.
A lot of Giants fans were not thrilled when he was injured during practice. Giants fans know how bad the offensive line was last season. Joshua Ezeudu finished practice at right tackle when Eluemunor had to leave with an injury.
Evan Neal was the seventh pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Alabama. At the time he was drafted, there was no doubt that he was one of the best offensive line prospects coming out. General manager Joe Schoen was not the only one who thought that Neal was going to be a really good starter at the NFL level.
New York Giants Evan Neal Will Have To Earn His Spot Back
When Neal is activated off the PUP list, there is no doubt that the New York Giants will not give him his spot back right away. He is going to have to earn his spot back. Jermaine Eluemunor going to right tackle on the first day of camp signals that this could be the end of Neal with the Giants. Had Eluemunor played left guard, it would have been one thing. Evan Neal has struggled when he has been on the field during games.
The New York Giants are not messing around with the offensive line this season. They just recently signed Greg Van Roten and it is possible that he could be left guard at some point this season. There will be many more questions about the offensive line that will have to be answered this season. It was just the first day of practice. What is weird is that quarterback Daniel Jones, who suffered a torn ACL in November, is back before Evan Neal.
Let that sink in for a minute. Jones is a hard worker but has not produced stats very well. Neal is just a flat-out bust at this point for the Giants.
