With the 2024 NFL Draft right around the corner, college football programs are holding localized events for draft prospects to showcase their skills and LSU held theirs on Wednesday. LSU has multiple prospects projected to be taken within the first 32 picks including two wide receivers in Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.
Nabers, who broke the school record for most receiving yards in program history, has been selected within the top 10 on mock draft boards and some even have him as a top-five grade. However, he did not participate at the NFL Combine earlier this month and LSU’s Pro Day was his first taste of testing as an NFL prospect.
Malik Nabers Runs 4.35 40-Yard Dash Time at LSU Pro Day
During testing on Wednesday, Nabers ran a 40-yard dash time of 4.35 and cemented himself amongst the fastest wide receivers in the 2024 class. His time of 4.35 would put him in fourth place amongst the field that ran it at this year’s combine. Nabers also achieved a 42-inch vertical jump at LSU’s Pro Day. These numbers could push him a couple of spots higher on a team’s draft boards.
Before testing in front of scouts, Nabers had dinner with the New York Giants on Tuesday night and met with four other teams during the interview process according to NFL Media. The four teams include the New England Patriots, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, and Jacksonville Jaguars. He is also set to meet with the Arizona Cardinals after his workout on Wednesday.
Could Nabers Be First Pass Catcher Taken off the Board During 2024 NFL Draft?
According to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah and The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, multiple teams view Nabers as the best wide receiver in this year’s class since college football was in season. Marvin Harrison Jr, who is the number one ranked prospect amongst the 2024 class is who most NFL insiders have going number one. Harrison caught the third-most touchdowns in Ohio State history during his three-year college career.
In Jeremiah’s opinion, it will come down to preference and style of play. Nabers and Harrison are two different types of receivers and not every team needs the same style. If you need an aggressive catcher on the outside with a bigger frame, take Harrison. If you want a more dynamic option, Nabers should be the selection due to his ability as a slot receiver. Both are special talents and efficient route runners. You can’t go wrong with either side.
