LSU Football has been, in many ways, the younger brother of Alabama in the SEC West (which no longer exists, but you get the point) for nearly 15 years. Yes, the Tigers have risen above the Crimson Tide a few times, including winning a National Championship in 2019, but for the most part, it has been Alabama, LSU, and the rest of the field.
With Nick Saban gone, Brian Kelly is not wasting any time trying to take advantage of the situation as fans and players are left wondering where Alabama football will be in the upcoming years. Even Alabama doesn’t seem sure about their decision with the contract they gave Kalen DeBoer a very minimal buyout of only $7 million following his first full year in Tuscaloosa.
LSU Lands Top Prospects in the Nation
Louisiana has some of the top high school football talents in the nation, and LSU has prioritized keeping the best in-state talent. To this point, they’ve done a phenomenal job landing nine of the top ten recruits in the class of 2025.
Additionally, the Tigers have already had four players commit who are ranked as the highest rated player in their position in the nation, according to On3. These players include:
- Bryce Underwood – Quarterback
- Dakorien Moore – Wide Receiver
- Harlem Berry – Running Back
- Tyler Miller – Interior Offensive Lineman
In total, LSU Football has 11 commitments for the 2025 class, which ranks first in the nation at this early stage in the recruiting cycle (which hasn’t really even started yet).

LSU Will Need a Big Year in 2024
The negative side to landing big-time recruits so early is that these players have a lot of time to recommit and play somewhere else. If LSU struggles in 2024 by going 8-4 or worse, don’t be surprised if some, if not all, of these players, find a new home, as donors may be a bit more hesitant to rake out the cash that will be necessary to pay these guys the NIL they will be worth and demanding.
The Tigers do have a somewhat favorable schedule in 2024. While any SEC schedule will be very difficult, they avoid playing Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia, considered three of the top five teams in the conference. Additionally, they host Alabama and Ole Miss, probably the two toughest opponents on their schedule.
If they go 9-3, they will probably find themselves in the College Football Playoff, and then finding the funding and interest for any player they want won’t be out of the question.
Conclusion
2025 is still a long way away, but as of today, LSU is set up to have the best signing class in the entire country. Even with the doubts and variables that could change between now and then, there isn’t a team in the country who wouldn’t trade their current 2025 recruiting position with where LSU is right now.
The Tigers open their season against USC on Sunday, September 1st, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
