The Los Angeles Rams landed a familiar face in hopes of significantly bolstering its passing defense.

After signing cornerback Darious Williams this offseason, the Rams believe that they have the secondary in place to make a significant push in the NFC West.
Last season, Williams posted 53 total tackles with four interceptions and two forced fumbles, in his second season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, after spending the first three seasons of his career in Los Angeles.
Williams’ second act with the Rams could be even more prolific than his first go-round with the franchise.

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon put together a list of the best moves made by teams across the NFL this offseason, including the Rams signing Williams as a “steal.”
“I promise this wasn’t intentional,” Kenyon writes for B/R. “But it sure is convenient. Jacksonville released Darious Williams for money-saving reasons, and he found a familiar landing spot on the Los Angeles Rams. Williams, who ceded just 6.2 yards per target last season (and 5.0 in 2022), signed a team-friendly three-year, $22.5 million pact to rejoin the Rams.”
The team-friendly terms of Williams’ contract notwithstanding, the 31-year-old could be primed to make an outsized impact on a secondary and defense in need of strong cornerback play, especially following the departure of disruptive interior lineman Aaron Donald, upfront.
At 5-foot-9 and 187 pounds, Williams has developed a reputation as an underrated lockdown defender in this league.
Last season, according to Pro Football Focus, Williams held opposing quarterbacks to a pedestrian 69.6 passer rating when throwing his direction, while opposing receivers averaged just 12 yards per reception with Williams in coverage.
Williams‘ arrival has the potential to significantly elevate the Rams’ passing defense.
