The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills 27-24 in the Divisional Round. Patrick Mahomes completed 17 out of 23 pass attempts for 215 yards and threw two touchdown passes. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who had a poor regular season, stepped up and played well against Buffalo.
Valdes-Scantling’s recent playoff success proves that he is a much better player in the postseason.
We will be comparing his regular season statistics to his postseason numbers throughout his six-year NFL career.
The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver was inconsistent in the regular season but consistent in the postseason with Green Bay
Marquez Valdes-Scantling was very inconsistent with the Green Bay Packers but played well in the playoffs. Valdes-Scantling caught 38 passes on 73 targets (52.1%) for 581 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season. Green Bay went 6-9-1 and did not make the playoffs.
Valdes-Scantling caught 26 passes on 56 targets (46.4%) for 452 yards and two touchdowns in his second season. Green Bay went 13-3 and made it to the NFC Championship game. He was targeted once in the Divisional Round and had one reception for eight yards. He was not targeted in the NFC Championship game.
Valdes-Scantling caught 33 passes on 63 targets (52.4%) for 690 yards and six touchdowns in his third season. Green Bay went 13-3 and made it to the NFC Championship game. He caught four passes on eight targets for 33 yards in the Divisional Round. He caught four passes on six targets for 115 yards and a touchdown in the NFC Championship game, totaling eight receptions on 14 targets for 148 yards and one touchdown in two playoff games.
Valdes-Scantling caught 26 passes on 55 targets (47.3%) for 430 yards and three touchdowns. Green Bay went 13-4 and made it to the Divisional Round. He missed the Divisional Round due to a back injury.
MVS was consistent in 2022
Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed a 3-year, $30 million contract during the 2022 offseason.
Valdes-Scantling caught 42 passes on 81 targets (51.9%) for 687 yards and two touchdowns in his fifth season. Kansas City went 14-3 and won the Super Bowl. He caught one pass on two targets for six yards and a touchdown in the Divisional Round. He caught six passes on eight targets for 116 yards and one touchdown in the AFC Championship. He had zero catches on one target in the Super Bowl, totaling seven receptions on 11 targets for 122 yards and two touchdowns in three playoff games.
MVS struggled in the regular season but has played well in the playoffs
Valdes-Scantling had his worst regular season performance in his sixth year. He caught 21 passes on 42 targets (50%) for 315 yards and one touchdown. Kansas City went 11-6. He had one catch on two targets for eight yards in the Wild Card and had two catches on four targets for 62 yards in the Divisional, totaling three receptions on six targets for 70 yards in two playoff games.
Will he play well?
