The Kansas City Chiefs took care of business on Saturday night with a victory over the Miami Dolphins. Not only did they win this game, but they made US streaming history doing it. Led by star QB Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs now look ahead to the divisional round.
Today, the Chiefs were waiting to find out who their opponent would be. Well, thanks to a Buffalo Bills win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mahomes will face a career first next week.
First Road Playoff Game for Patrick Mahomes
Believe it or not, next week will be the first time that Patrick Mahomes has ever played a road playoff game in his NFL career. Considering he has played 15 career playoff games and made it to at least the AFC Championship in each of his five previous playoff appearances, this is quite a long time to go without having to play a road playoff game. Now, he will have to finally do it against one of his biggest adversaries: Josh Allen.
Third Playoff Meeting
Next week will be the third time that Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have clashed in the playoffs. Mahomes and the Chiefs came out on top in both of the previous meetings. These meetings were in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons respectively.
The first time they met was in the AFC Championship during the 2020-21 season. Mahomes and the Chiefs won that meeting handily by a final score of 38-24. Kansas City ended up losing that Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
As for the second meeting, it has gone down as one of the greatest playoff games in NFL history. This was the 2021-22 divisional round clash that made 13 seconds famous. That was how close Buffalo came to taking down Mahomes for once before the AFC Championship. However, the Chiefs miraculously drove down the field to get the game-tying field and then easily got the game-winning touchdown in overtime.
With two minutes to go in regulation, the Chiefs were up 26-21 in that game. The final score ended up being 42-36 in overtime. Now, the Bills are going to want redemption as they finally get to host one of these playoff meetings.
Kansas City Chiefs Moving Forward
The Chiefs looked impressive in their first playoff game, easily defeating the Miami Dolphins 26-7. Through the first five wild card games, it is the fewest points allowed in any game so far. While Mahomes should not ride the defense, it is a good sign going into this important game. However, if any quarterback is capable of stepping up in an unfamiliar moment, it is Patrick Mahomes.
