Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love Won’t Rule Out Sitting 2024 Season

The Green Bay Packers are set to give Jordan Love at least $13.5 million to play in the upcoming season, with another $9 million possible for him to earn through incentives. On Tuesday, Love hinted that a paltry sum for a fifth-year quarterback might not be enough for him to take the field in September.

The Packers took a risk last offseason by declining Love’s fifth-year option. They chose to give him a one-year extension instead. Love excelled during the 2023 season, leading the NFL’s youngest team to the Divisional Round and nearly knocking off the San Francisco 49ers.

    Now, Love wants a bag.

Jordan Love wants an extension near $50 million annually

According to Joel Corry with CBS Sports, a former NFL agent said Love is expected to sign an extension worth over $50 million annually:

The expectation is the Packers and Love’s camp will start working on a contract extension after the 2024 Draft in late April. It wouldn’t be a surprise for Love to target more than the $50,271,667 per year ($150.815 million over three years) Rodgers got in 2022 in his final deal with the Packers. Love was more productive last season than the four-time NFL MVP was in 2022 when the Packers missed the playoffs with an 8-9 record.

Love was peppered with questions about his contract situation during his media appearance at the Packers OTAs on Tuesday. Love said he didn’t want to talk much about his contract. Love wouldn’t commit to playing in the upcoming season when a reporter asked if he’d play for the Packers this fall if a new extension weren’t signed.

“We’ll see. I don’t know yet. We’ll see,” Love said.

Love being at voluntary OTAs this month is a good sign that he’ll play this season. However, things might change if his agent sees little progress with the Packers front office before mandatory OTAs or training camp starts.

A nearly $38 million difference is on the line for Love if he doesn’t sign a new extension. That’s a lot of money to risk for a violent sport where many of his quarterback colleagues suffered significant injuries last season.

Sit him. I am sick and tired of these spoiled athletes demanding everything. He played one year, and now he wants 50 million. An me wondering if I can feed my family. I am a pack fan, but know he is acting just like Rodgers. A DIVA
