After signing Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs to a deal for next season, the Green Bay Packers have informed their superstar Aaron Jones that they are releasing him according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Jones was drafted in the 5th round by Green Bay in 2017 and emerged as their lead back not long after he was selected, but will now look for a job with a new franchise.
Aaron Jones Dealt with Multiple Injuries for Green Bay Packers in 2023 Season
While Jones has been the workhorse back in Green Bay for the past few seasons, he was limited throughout 2023 due to multiple injuries and missed a total of 7 games in the regular season. However, he dominated once he got healthy towards the end of the season and averaged over 110 yards per game on the ground in the last 5 games.
Jones, who is a Pro Bowler and rushed for the most touchdowns in 2019 will be heading into his 8th NFL season. The 29-year-old will have the opportunity to test the free agency market and find a new team.
Josh Jacobs to Become Workhorse Back for Green Bay Packers Next Season
With Jones on his way out, Jacobs will become the workhorse back for Green Bay with AJ Dillon still undecided on his future. Jones will join a running back pool that still has Derrick Henry and Austin Ekeler that need to be signed, but will most likely find another team quickly due to his performances late in the season last year.
Multiple teams are still shopping for a new running back including the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. Both teams who could use a man of Jones’s talents heading into next season.
