Darez Diggs, the brother of NFL stars Trevon Diggs and Stefon Diggs, was sentenced to two years of probation for a violent attack that took place in an elevator in May of 2023.
Darez pleaded no contest to a felony charge and will be required to perform 20 hours of community service. He was officially charged with one felony count of grand theft. Darez was facing another felony robbery charge that officials reportedly dropped as a part of the agreement.
Video of the elevator attack that featured Darez Diggs was released to the public by TMZ
The elevator attack featuring Darez Diggs took place on May 29, 2023. The victim, Christopher Griffith, has a lawsuit directed at Diggs that is allegedly still active.
Diggs was waiting for Griffith on the 16th floor of his Los Angeles apartment building. Upon seeing Diggs, Griffith tried to re-enter the elevator, but Diggs stopped the doors from closing. Two more men entered the elevator, attacked Griffith and took a bag from him that police said contained “diamonds and other jewelry.”

Darez Diggs’ brothers, Stefon Diggs and Trevon Diggs, are NFL stars
The Diggs brothers quickly rose to the top of their respective position groups upon coming into the NFL. Stefon solidified himself as one of the league’s top receivers since coming into the league in 2015.
He is five yards away from having 10,000 career receiving yards. He managed to pass the 1,000-yard receiving mark in every year since 2018. Stefon has 67 career receiving touchdowns.
Stefon started out his career with the Minnesota Vikings and was featured in one of the most iconic plays in the history of the organization. Diggs caught the “Minneapolis Miracle” in the 2017-2018 season to take the Vikings to the next round of the playoffs.

Stefon then went on to play for the Buffalo Bills before being traded to the Houston Texans this offseason. In an article from the New York Post, Bills general manager Brandon Beane explained how difficult it was to move on from a player like Stefon Diggs.
“Any time you make a move like this, as I said, very difficult, you’re trying to win,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane told reporters after the deal. “And sometimes people may not see that. This is by no means the Bills giving up or trying to take a step back or anything like that. Everything we do, we’re trying to win.”
Trevon Diggs, who was an elite cornerback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, quickly burst onto the NFL scene as one of the best corners in the league. The Dallas Cowboys defensive star amassed a staggering 11 interceptions in the 2021 season.
11 interceptions are just three interceptions away from the most interceptions in a season, which is a record that has been held by Dick “Night Train” Lane since 1952.
Fans are saying the punishment handed to Darez Diggs was light
Upon the news of the sentencing of Darez Diggs, many fans took to social media to explain how they felt about him receiving two years of probation for the attack.
Darez spent time in the XFL after playing college football for the Morgan State Bears. Many fans believe the weight behind his last name is the reason for his “light” punishment.
