Let’s take a Deep look at Bears new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. We all know he came from Green Bay where he worked with with Aaron Rodgers for several years. What else do we know? What did Rodgers have to say about Getsy? Where was Getsy before Green Bay? Let’s answer those questions and more as we take a deep look at Luke Getsy,
Getsy’s start in football
Getsy was the only four year starter in the history of Steel Valley highschool. He would play well enough to earn a scholarship to the university of Pittsburgh. Getsy was a teammate of Larry Fitzgerald at Pitt but wasn’t getting to play, so after two seasons he transferred to Akron. As a two year starter for the Zips, Getsy set 24 school records and took them to the MAC conference championship his senior year in 03. In that game Akron went on to beat Northern Illinois, who had a couple of players that would become Bears. Running back Garret Wolfe along with wide receiver and drug kingpin Sam Hurd. Getsy would win M.V.P honors throwing for over 400 yards. He would then play in the North south all-star gaming hoping to be notices by NFL scouts.

On to the NFL, for a moment
Undrafted Getsy would be signed by the 49ers in 2007. However he was unable to earn a spot as backup to 49ers starter Alex Smith and was cut by the end of preseason. That would be the end of Getsy’s playing career. He would return to the college level where he would be an offensive position coach for a handful of small schools from 2007-2012. He was then hired for one Season as wide receivers coach at Western Michigan
The pack come calling
In 2014 Getsy broke into the NFL as a coach with the Packers. From 2014-2017 he was quality control coach for the offense getting his first taste of Aaron Rodgers. In 2018 he left Green Bay for the University of Mississippi State where he was wide receivers coach for just one season before returning to the Packers and getting his second helping of Rodgers.

The Pack come calling….Again
His second stint with the Packers would be from 2019-2021 where he was quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. This is when he become close with Aaron Rodgers. According to former Packers wide receiver James Jones, Rodgers begged the Packers to find away to keep Getsy when he learned he was on his way out. The Packers quarterback had nothing but good things to say about Getsy which is a pretty rare thing coming from Aaron Rodgers. Getsy would interview with the Panthers for their offensive coordinator position and with the Broncos for their head coaching spot before signing with the Bears. Hopefully this is the part of the story where Getsy wins a Superbowl ring. I personally like the hire of Luke Getsy and I’m excited to see what he can do with Justin Fields.
