The Dallas Cowboys have one of the most high-profile owners in the NFL. Jerry Jones has never been shy to say what is on his mind. As a result, people tend to listen to what he has to say. Recently, Jones revealed that a big reason for this is because he intentionally tries to stir the pot.
Jerry Jones Likes to Stir the Pot
According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed that he thinks it is good to stir the pot. Here is his full quote on the subject:
“I realize all the criticism and I understand it. As a matter of fact, I try to stir it up. And I have since I got here. That’s good. Be relevant. It works.” -Jerry Jones
Dallas Cowboys Making Headlines
The Cowboys have several players making headlines of late. This is because a few of their star players are due to earn massive contracts soon. Two of the more notable players in this mix are WR CeeDee Lamb and LB Micah Parsons.
Perhaps the most notable player in the mix is QB Dak Prescott. A few months ago, Jerry Jones revealed that it is looking unlikely that a contract extension with Prescott will get done before the start of the regular season. Right now, Prescott is projected to earn nearly $60 million annually on his next contract, regardless of what team it comes from.
History of Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys
Jerry Jones has been the Cowboys’ owner since 1989. At that time, Dallas was struggling, and Jones bought the team for just $140 million. It is safe to say Jones has made that money back and then some. Now, the Cowboys are worth over $9 billion!
Outside of financial success, Jones saw some immediate success on the football field. In just his fourth season as the Cowboys’ owner, Dallas captured Super Bowl XXVII. They also went on to win Super Bowl XXVIII and Super Bowl XXX.
However, it has been 29 years since the Cowboys won their last Super Bowl. They have not even appeared in another Super Bowl since then. Things have gotten so bad for the Cowboys in the playoffs that they suffered a historic playoff loss last season. Now, Jerry Jones has to put his money where his mouth is if the Cowboys have any chance of winning another Super Bowl in his lifetime.
