Aaron Rodgers
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has admitted that he’s taking it “year by year” concerning his retirement. That should be good news if you’re a Packers fan, especially when Rodgers added to that statement that he “definitely” wants to retire as a Green Bay Packer, according to The Athletic. The back-to-back reigning MVP QB has been electric since the arrival of head coach Matt LaFleur and his potential heir apparent, Jordan Love.
Aaron Rodgers' late-career resurgence has been incredible and directly coincides with Matt LaFleur's arrival in Green Bay.
Since 2019:
– 39 regular-season wins (1st in NFL)
– 111 passing TDs (1st)
– 12,416 passing yards (5th)
– 13 INT on 1,626 attempts

Jordan Love
Jordan Love, controversially, was drafted 26th overall by the Green Bay Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Packers traded up with the Miami Dolphins to select Love in order to groom him behind Rodgers. Using a 1st-round pick on Jordan Love also gives the Packers the coveted 5th-year option on the developmental QB. But there lies the problem for the Packers QB room. Jordan Love has only started 1 game in his brief career and has been limited to just 62 passing attempts. The Packers must decide whether or not to pick up Love’s 5th-year option after this upcoming 2022 season. That would result in a lot of money tied to a QB that has practically never seen the field.

The Future
In 2020, Aaron Rodgers was coming off 3 years in which his play wasn’t up to his usual MVP standards. Many believed that this was a surefire sign that Rodgers was in the twilight of his career. But, with Love now sharing the Packers QB room, Rodgers has never looked better.
Jordan Love will continue to watch from the sidelines as Aaron Rodgers works his magic in the 2022 season. But the future of the Packers QB situation is essentially in the palm of the 4-time MVPs hand. If the Packers decide to pick up the option on Love’s contract and Rodgers does not retire, an unreasonable amount of the salary cap will go to waste. Whereas if Rodgers decides to call it a career after the deadline of the 5th-year option on Love expires, the Packers will have 1 season to decide if Love is worth franchise QB money.
