The Dallas Cowboys already have plenty of issues to figure out on the field as they struggle to make a deep playoff run. Fans are already clowning the team for their failures to acquire high-value free agents, but they are doing everything they can to improve the team.
While the team is preparing to build the best roster they can, their franchise quarterback is looking to sort out off-field issues that are impacting his ability to concentrate on winning football games.
Dak Prescott sues woman who attempted to frame him for sexual harassment
The Spun’s Matt Hladik wrote about Prescott looking to do away with a woman who tried to get his money by falsely accusing him of sexual harassment:
According to Prescott’s lawyer, the quarterback was contacted in January by the representation for Victoria Shores, a woman who alleges Prescott sexually assaulted her in 2017. Shores’ lawyers demanded $100 million in damages.
Prescott is denying her claim, and in the lawsuit filed Monday, is suing for “defamation and slander, defamation per se, civil extortion/duress, business disparagement, tortious interference with current and/or prospective business relations, civil conspiracy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.”
“Recently, Mr. Prescott found himself the subject of an extortion plot,” Prescott’s lawyer Levi McCathern said. “The Defendant and her legal team have threatened to go public with a completely fabricated story of sexual assault from nearly a decade ago, and demanded that Mr. Prescott immediately pay $100 Million in exchange for her not pressing false charges with the authorities.
The issue is highly sensitive and will derail his focus on helping the Cowboys make the Super Bowl in his contract year. His lawyer added that Prescott “shares great empathy” with sexual assault survivors and has never engaged in any form of nonconsensual sexual activity.
How will the lawsuit affect Prescott’s ability to focus for the Dallas Cowboys?
Depending on how the lawsuit proceeds, he may have to make court appearances during the 2024 season if it ever reaches that point. These appearances will hamper on his training regimen, which in turn will impact the Dallas Cowboys’ chances of making Super Bowl LIX.
Prescott had a solid 2023 season where he passed for 4516 passing yards and 36 touchdowns. The case will be an unwelcome distraction for him and his team.
However, his detractors might claim that he doesn’t need the lawsuit to affect his game as he naturally chokes during high-pressure moments of the playoffs.
