Wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter of the Colorado Buffaloes is the Shohei Ohtani of football. He is playing on both sides of the ball on a Power Five level and played 119 snaps in the road win against the 17th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs yesterday.
In the game, Hunter finished with 11 receptions for 119 yards while also recording an interception and a pass deflection on defense. The biggest obstacle to claiming the Heisman Trophy is a quarterback also in the Pac-12 in USC’s Caleb Williams. Williams through two games and has a 9:0 touchdown-to-interception ratio up to this point.
However, things can be a lot closer as the season goes on. The question remains: Can Travis Hunter win the Heisman Trophy?
Travis Hunter’s Stats Won’t Lie
Hunter is doing something rarely seen as he almost eclipsed his totals from Jackson State last season through one game. The question remains if coach Deion Sanders is going to limit him throughout the season or let him continue doing this.
The biggest concern would be injury, but that could happen to any player at any time. While it was only one game. Travis Hunter was impressive. Williams already won the Heisman in 2022, and just like the Ohtani argument for the AL MVP, Hunter is going to put incredible stats up on both sides of the ball.

I believe if Hunter winds up with 1,000+ receiving yards, seven touchdown receptions, and five interceptions with a fumble recovery. It’ll be hard to beat those numbers by any player. His dedication to both sides of the ball may become the norm and inspire a generation of players to dominate both ways, something rarely seen in the college ranks.
