The Justin Fields era for the Chicago Bears appears to be nearing its end. The 24-year-old had a tremendous opportunity to firmly establish himself as the team’s cornerstone quarterback this past season, but unfortunately for him, he just wasn’t able to live up to the lofty expectations.
At this point, it appears that rumors linking Fields to a move away from Chicago this offseason may have legs.
Opposing Teams Have Asked Chicago Bears About Justin Fields
Fields is entering just his fourth season as an NFL quarterback. If the Bears no longer have the patience to wait for him to develop into a potential superstar QB, then other teams might just be willing to take that risk.
According to NFL insider Albert Breer of SI, the Bears have already received multiple inquiries from opposing teams with regard to the availability of the former No. 11 overall pick:
“Chicago staffers got inquiries from other teams on Fields in Mobile. And while the Bears haven’t shopped Fields, those conversations did allow the team to start to gauge the 2021 first-rounder’s worth out there on the market,” Breer wrote.
As the above report indicates, the Bears don’t seem to be actively trying to find a trade partner for Fields. Nevertheless, they seem open to the possibility.
Chicago Bears Looking to Resolve QB Situation Soon
For all we know, the Bears could end up keeping Fields. While this might be unlikely given how they are expected to use their No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft to pick up a new quarterback, we have seen crazier things in the past.
Whatever the case might be, what is clear is that Chicago is looking to establish their blueprint in the immediate future:
“The Bears are meeting over the next couple weeks to finalize plans at quarterback, with the expectation that they’ll have the plan in place in Indianapolis next week,” Breer wrote.
