The Las Vegas Raiders are heading back to California, at least for a temporary part of the year. The Raiders had been native to California from the start of the franchise in 1960 until they moved to Las Vegas in 2020.

The Raiders moved around California a bit. They stayed in Oakland until 1981 when they ventured to Los Angeles. They moved back to Oakland after the 1994 season. Now, the Raiders have their sights set on Orange County.

According to Vic Tafur with The Athletic, the Las Vegas Raiders received approval from the Costa Mesa City Council to hold part of their training camp at the Jack Hammett Sports Complex. The Raiders will pay $165,000 in rent and hold a youth training camp, among other items:

“The Raiders’ deal with Costa Mesa also includes $600,000 for improvements to the fields at the complex, a donation of 100 tickets to an NFL preseason game in Southern California, a $10,000 donation to a local youth sports team, outdoor weight training equipment to Costa Mesa High School and a Ford transit van for recreation programs in underserved areas.”

The Chargers practiced there when Tom Telesco was the GM

The complex became available after the Los Angeles Chargers chose to move their camp from Costa Mesa to El Segundo. However, because the Chargers are under contract with Costa Mesa, the Raiders could only sign a one-year deal for the 2024 training camp:

“The Costa Mesa site has most recently been used as the training camp home of the Los Angeles Chargers, who this year will move into their new practice facility in El Segundo.

The Chargers are still under contract with the city of Costa Mesa through August 2026 — though they declined their option this year and plan to hold camp at their new facility — so the agreement does not guarantee the Raiders can use the facility in future years.  The Raiders will have to submit a letter of interest by Jan. 1, 2025, if they want to return for that year’s training camp.”

Five teams will now have part of their training camp in California this summer. The Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints, and Dallas Cowboys will also hold practices in the Golden State.

Tell them to stay where they are at! They aren’t welcomed back here anymore, because they just ghosted their die hard fans for a better Stadium!!!

Blame Oakland City council for running the team off. Mark Davis wanted to stay in Oakland but they wouldn’t approve a new stadium for the team.

It’s always politics but the team takes the fault for it. I’m greatful they are able to play and extend their help to our youth

They tried for years to build a stadium in Oakland but it didn’t happen die to the city. Oakland is also a dump and crime is out of control there 24/7. The Franchise went from the bottom of the league in value to top 5 in value since the move. The game experience is also a lot better, the stadium is beautiful and the Raiders can host Superbowls and other events that they make money from. They can also attract better talent since Nevada has no income tax so the players keep an extra 30% of their money.

STOP IT!! Its not the Organizations fault when people of their hometown cant afford to go to the football games. The RAIDERS are welcomed EVERYWHERE. But we refuse to participate in any New England or Patriots functions. LoL!

*Tell them to stay where they are. “At” is unnecessary. and grammatically incorrect, ending a sentence with a preposition.

That’s why they call them traitors, because they always leave their fans in the stadiums. They don’t know how to stay in one city. You might as well have them on a corner To make you that money

Dude, I’m from Oakland and it Broke my heart when the Raiders moved to Los Angeles and I was DEVASTATED when they moved to Vegas from Oakland and Both times it was because the city of Oakland wouldn’t give them Any help with a stadium not even updating the 50 year old stadium with a Below Sea Level playing field What the heck Oakland!

Yes this California move to Summer training is insane. They could have moved everything to the Top of Mt. Charleston where it’s Cooler. The move that Far away is so expensive and away from the Las Vegas Community that did all this for them. The Henderson Facility would have been just fine in Air Conditioning. So Crazy and disappointing!

It’s not new for teams to do training camp away from their facility. It’s done on purpose to build chemistry with players as they will be doing everything together even after work. It also helps build fans. Southern California has been an important market for the Raiders since the 80s and there are more fans there than all of Vegas.

Have you ever seen an electric bill for air conditioning use during summer months for a facility that big? Me neither. Probably bigger than some of the Jackpots in Vegas. LoL
