The Washington Commanders are going to have a totally different roster next season than they did a season ago. Washington is going through a total rebuild and it is going to take them time. The Commanders did very well in the 2024 NFL Draft and Washington is looking for other undrafted free agents to potentially make the 53-man roster in 2024.
Some of the undrafted free agents that the Washington Commanders signed were quarterback Sam Hartman from Notre Dame, running back Austin Jones from USC, wide receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint from Georgia, cornerback Chigozie Anusiem from Colorado State, safety Tyler Owens from Texas Tech, running back Michael Wiley from Arizona, and others.
Nick Baumgardner and Scott Dochterman from The Athletic have their choice as to who can make an impact during NFL training camp for the Washington Commanders. They believe that running back Michael Wiley from Arizona could be the player that makes noise for them in NFL training camp.
They said:
“Wiley turned down offers from Princeton and Yale to play FBS football at Arizona. There, he blossomed into a team captain/third-down weapon, setting set the school records for catches (123) and receiving yards (1,150) by a running back. A reliable, tough and durable player with special-teams upside, Wiley (5-10, 210) has a work ethic that will impress in Washington.”
Washington Commanders Depth Chart Will Be Up For Grabs In Training Camp
The Washington Commanders starting running back this season is projected to be Austin Ekeler. They signed him as a free agent and he played with the Los Angeles Chargers for the past few seasons. Brian Robinson Jr. will be the second running back on the roster.
As for now, Chris Rodriguez Jr. is the third running back on the Washington Commanders depth chart and Jeremy McNichols is listed as the fourth running back on the Commanders depth chart. Both undrafted free agents Michael Wiley and Austin Jones will have a chance to make the roster.
Wiley as a senior last year for the Arizona Wildcats played in 10 games. He rushed for 311 yards on 70 carries and three touchdowns. Michael Wiley averaged 4.4 yards per carry. In the passing game, he caught 28 passes for 306 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with averaging 10.9 yards per reception.
The battles for the third and fourth running back spots on the depth chart will be huge for the Washington Commanders this summer. Washington is looking to change its culture within the franchise also and he was a team captain of the Arizona Wildcats a season ago.
