BYU Football 2022 Season has come to an end at 7-5. This also marks an end of an era as the Cougars head to the Big 12 after being Independent for the last 11 seasons.
The offense did well all season long with Jaren Hall at the helm and Puka Nacua being a leader on and off the field. With many key injuries and losing Gunner Romney and Puka Nacua’s first game of the season. Kody Epps, Keanu Hill, Chase Roberts, and Brayden Cosper these wide receivers stepped up and saved the passing game which saved the season. The running game struggled no matter who was given the ball. They did eventually towards the end of the season start to show some life.

The defense had many struggles this season from injuries to play-calling, to missed tackles and many more reasons why this defense struggled. Payton Wilgar, Max Tooley, and Ben Bywater led the Cougar defense to many successful drives but never a full game played by the defense. When Wilgar and Tooley went down Bywater, Robinson and Summers stepped up and found their footing to continue to lead the defense on the field.
South Florida
BYU Football kicked off the 2022 season after a 2 1/2-hour rain delay. Then they came out just running and never stopped. It only took them 11 seconds to score after the opening kickoff. The offense showed up ready to play and they never let the Bull’s defense stop moving last night.
The defense also came out, and they played strong on a great night and fought hard. “I thought we did a lot of good things, we have a couple of things we will need to get fixed,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake said. “But overall I was happy with our performance and with the way we handled the delay.” Overall the offense put up 575 yards and 337 in the first half. College Football is back! BYU comes away with a 50-21 victory

Baylor
BYU Football Upsets Baylor in double overtime 26-20. Provo, Utah late night under lights and a full moon caused some insane events last night. BYU came in without their top two wide receivers and played with some faces in the late-night matchup. After a field goal early for the Cougars, there was no other score until Baylor put in a touchdown in the second quarter.
BYU would then score right before the half with Chase Roberts. After some field goals, the Cougars put up another touchdown, Chase Roberts to Jaren Hall. In the Fourth quarter, Jake Oldroyd missed a field and the game went into overtime. Another missed field in the first overtime period the Cougars had to get it done on offense. Lopini Katoa scores on a three-yard run to get the Cougars the Victory.

Oregon
BYU suffers its first loss to Oregon. After a sloppy game, and some key players missing BYU loses to Oregon. The Cougars were without Puka Nacua, Gunner Romney, Tyler Batty, and Earl Tuioti-Mariner. It was just a hard game and Oregon played well. BYU had some mistakes and also the defense struggled today. The Cougars the game ran onto the field with a flag with the Oregon O and name and number. This was in honor of their player who died this past summer in a rock climbing incident. They also placed flowers on the 4-yard line.

Wyoming
The Cougars returned home this Saturday to play the Wyoming Cowboys. After a slow start to the Cougar offense, BYU came away with the victory. The Cougar’s defense once again struggled to stop a team with a bad offense. BYU had a better game than the first half but lost some players in the second half. BYU won 38-24
Utah State
BYU Football Beats Utah State to go to 4-1 on the season. The Wagon Wheel will remain in Provo. After a good hard-fought game the Cougars come away with the 38-26 win over the Utah State Aggies. The Cougars came out and struggled in the first half with many penalties that helped the Aggies. After halftime though there was no stopping the Cougars.

Notre Dame
BYU starts slow and comes up short against Notre Dame in Las Vegas. Substitutions and having enough players on the field. The coaches forgot how to coach efficiently tonight and can anyone count to 11 this played a big role in the first half on how the Cougars started the game. The refs missed so many calls and it was an ACC officiating staff. Coaching needs to step it up as getting started like they did hurt the Cougars in their 28-20 loss. Notre Dame controlled the clock and gave the Cougars very few times to put points on the board.
Arkansas
BYU loses to Arkansas making this the second week in a row after defensive mistakes and an offensive that can’t throw the ball consistently. The defensive coordinator needs help executing his game plan every week. Turnovers also didn’t help BYU had only lost two all season until last night when they lost two just in one game.

Liberty
BYU loses to Liberty to get their third straight loss and fourth this season. What was predicted that BYU could go to a New Year Six bowl game is far gone and many wonder what kind of team this is. Those four losses come against Oregon, Notre Dame, Arkansas, and Liberty. The defense is excruciating to watch and the offense is getting hard to watch each week.
East Carolina
BYU Football loses to East Carolina to conclude a winless October. Unlike the last three, this one was close with the final score being 27-24. Another week of bad playcalling and execution by the players. The defense looked a little better than it has in a while. The offense forgot how to mix it up on going for it on fourth down. BYU losing to ECU mean that this season is over because they aren’t beating Boise State or Stanford so no Bowl Game for them this year.
Boise State
BYU beats Boise State in comeback style on the Smurf Turf as they close out this rivalry with a 31-28 Cougar Victory. This week whatever the Cougars did at practice or the changes that were made worked. With many key players out the Cougars overcame the adversity and won which is hard to do in Boise. Also surprising many and with a win, in two weeks the Cougars will be bowl eligible. This 31-28 win over Boise State puts BYU at 5-5 on the season.

Utah Tech
BYU Football Beats Utah Tech for the sixth win of the season beating the Trailblazers 52-26. This makes them bowl-eligible for the 11th time in 12 seasons as an independent school. With only two more games to go before becoming Big 12 next season. The final ride for many players at Lavell Edwards Stadium ends on a high note and gives a proper send-off to many seniors. The Cougars put up seven touchdowns yesterday those who put those touchdowns on the board are; Terrence Fall, Jaren Hall, Chase Roberts, Isaac Rex, and Keanu Hill put up three himself just in the first half.
Stanford
BYU Football beats Stanford to close out the 2022 and the Independence Era. The Cougars finish the regular season 7-5 and are headed to a Bowl game to be named later. With an almost complete game on the field for the Cougars and many players having season or career highs, it ended on a high note. With this win, BYU has now defeated every Pac-12 team at least once in program history. The Cougars put up five touchdowns and used Jaren Hall, Hinckley Ropati, Puka Nacua, and Isaac Rex put up two.

BYU Football
SMU
BYU beats SMU in game-winning fashion by stopping the Mustangs at the goal line on a two-point conversion. The Cougars wrap up the 2022 season at 8-5 and finish the independence era at 99-56. BYU finishes out 8-5 after a season that didn’t go the way much thought and with a defense that couldn’t figure out to play ball. The Cougars honored the late Mike Leach with a helmet decal and the Sailor Cougar helmets.
