A certain song tells us that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. However, I believe the best time of the year is the start of college football season.

A bunch of traditions will return for a new year. In Alabama, The Tide will Roll, and the Eagle will fly, In Mississippi chants of Hotty Toddy and Hail State will echo throughout the state. Arkansas will be calling them hogs and the folks in Louisiana will say in their Cajun language Geaux Tigers. The defending champion Georgia Bulldogs will be barking, and the Florida Gators will be chomping. That’s just the South, but the rest of the country is excited too.

Up North, stadiums like the Big House at Michigan and the Horseshoe at Ohio State will be filled once again. Other fanbases like Michigan State and Penn State will be chanting with all their might. Independents like Notre Dame will be striving for winning tradition again.

Out East, in the ACC, The Clemson Tigers will touch the rock before the game, Florida State fans will be doing the Tomahawk chop the whole game, and the state of North Carolina is excited too, but I think they will be counting the days until basketball season.

In the Heartland, there will be chants like Boomer Sooner and Hook ’em’ Horns in their final years of the Big 12 before they leave for the SEC. There will also be other schools like Baylor and Texas Tech who look to resume the winning ways they lost so long ago.

Finally, out West, a Battle for the city of Los Angeles will never stop feuding with chants like Fight On and Go Bruins. These two teams are also leaving their conferences to go to the Big 10. There will also be a certain team called The Ducks trying to sneak their way into the big games. Who knows what uniforms they will wear considering they have a million of them? Teams like Utah and Colorado will also begin their season as the buffalo charges across the football field and Utah climbs up the ranks of the top 25 standings.

Even nonpower five schools like Memphis and Arkansas State will start their season as the passion for programs like these intensifies after the last few seasons. One non-power five schools always make it to a New Year’s six bowl game, and it is going to be interesting finding out what school that will be.

This truly is the most wonderful time of the year. There will be tailgating and cheering and eating with loved ones so near, there will be booing and screaming and touchdowns and lots of beer. They’ll be flashback games from long ago and then cutting back to the game at hand for the highlights. There will be trash-talking and arguing with loved ones as well. They’ll be touchdowns and interceptions and game-winning field goals just like games long ago. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!! It starts in a few hours and will last for the weekend. For those that have waited patiently … Happy College Football Season everyone!
